Baltic Oasis is taking as a base the preliminary brief of the future Environment Building of the Estonian Ministry of the Environment. The main idea of the course is to study large scale canopies as a means of creating microclimates, in where the mass of the building can be more freely distributed.

Understanding of urban massing, skyline, landscaping
Understanding of 0 zero energy building and energy efficient architecture
Basic understanding of timber structures and their possibilities (glulam, trusses, CLT etc)
Using algorithmic design tools to create environmental data based designs

Both presentation as well as participation is taken into account.

Minimum is:

Understanding of urban massing, skyline, landscaping
>> A comprehensible concept that is based on a strong and unique vision for the complex and that takes into account the urban situation and developement, the climatic situation and especially daylighting issues.

Understanding of zero energy building and energy efficient architecture
>> Energy Design has to be an integral part of the urbanistic and architectural concept. The student must be able to describe basic thermal processes on the basis of his/her final project and how these processes change during the day / during the seasons

Basic understanding of timber structures and their possibilities (glulam, trusses, CLT etc)
>> Parts of the final project should be based on timber strucutres. The use of wood should be an essential part of the sustainability strategy and used considering the specific strength of this material.

Using algorithmic design tools to create environmental data based designs
>> Interest in these tools should be shown at least during participation, the possibilities of an algorithmic design should be seriously studied.
